Given the political climate towards topics of science, I am proposing that a basic science & reasoning test be created and administered to all potential candidates for public office. Upon passing said exam, he or she will then begin the eligibility process to be a candidate for public office.
When members of the U.S. Congress like Michele Bachmann claim that science can't be trusted because Stephen Hawking retracted his own theory of black holes, it's embarrassing and sends a bad message to our kids about science.
The exam wouldn't be anything like the MCAT or GRE subject tests, but if our youth have to take the SAT for college then our adults ought to take a basic sciences exam to hold public office.
