Over the course of the previous few years, funding for education has been cut over and over again. I propose making education a nondiscretionary item in the national budget. The measure could allow local school districts to hire more teachers and paraprofessionals, research better teaching methods, provide more resources to students, and provide more inclusive instruction by creating smaller classroom sizes (per hiring more educators.)
Thomas Jefferson once wrote:
"Above all things I hope the education of the common people will be attended to; convinced that on their good sense we may rely with the most security for the preservation of a due degree of liberty"
If this petition is actualized into policy, then we will be truly living up to our Founding Father's ideals.
