Currently each state is in charge of maintaining their own Victim's Assistance programs. However, having no specific guidelines for these programs, victims of crimes involving domestic and sexual abuse often fall victim to the system meant to aid them in this extremely painful time in their lives. This petition aims to have set up minimum requirements for each state to have to meet in their programs.
Specifically I would want see intense efforts towards making sure that women and children who relied on their abuser for necessities are not further victimized by having little to no cost programs set up for housing, all legal representation involving the suspect, financial aid, job assistance/training, day care as these are then necessity because of the situation the abuser has created.
