Create A Canal From the Mississippi River to the Midwest and Southwest to Ease Flooding and Help Alleviate Drought

If a canal, or series of canals, were dug from the Upper Mississippi River to the parched Southwest and Midwest, it would help to alleviate chronic flooding on the Mississippi, and at the same time provide much needed water for agriculture and cities in the Southwest and Midwest. The water could also be used to replenish Midwest aquifers. Construction of the canal would create badly needed jobs in construction in rural areas. The water flowing in the canal could even provide a clean source of hydro-electric energy for the nation.
