Charles Gladden made news in late April 2015 as a Congressional kitchen worker because of his status as a homeless citizen. His cash earnings after deductions is under $400 a week. This is a paltry fraction of what is necessary to survive particularly due to the cost of living in Washington D.C. Mr. Gladden is a diabetic and sleeps often on public benches even as he two years from retirement age. This is not only dangerous but absolutely unacceptable in the wealthiest nation in history and the oldest democracy on the planet. Just as all Congressional Legislators receive healthy paychecks often to strip the disenfranchised of their basic survival needs, the President and his allies should make Mr. Gladden an example of what needs to be done to restore the American Dream.
