Chronic diseases affect almost 50% of the American population and for the most part is preventable. We need to incorporate teaching in our schools of how nutrition and wellness can positively affect the lives of or children and future adults. This teaching needs to start at an early age, and is the most important thing we can give our children, namely, good health. We can teach our children many useful things, but if we are able to incorporate fundamental notions of what is important for a long and disease-free life, we will have given them the best teachings. This will serve not only to have them feel vibrant and energetic to a ripe old age, but will also serve to avoid the pain and tremendous costs associated with the serious degenerative diseases associated with poor lifestyle choices
