The city of Chicago, Il has a significant importance to the changing urban landscape seen in cities across the country. The city is the birthplace of the skyscraper and home to some of the finest examples of architecture anywhere in the world. In addition, just outside the downtown area are some of the most diverse communities having historical ties to the industrial revolution in the region. Their work towards workers' rights are still felt even today. Though many of these site are protected as a Registered National Historic Buildings, there is no centralization or connection between the locations as in a federal park and therefore are often overlooked by visitors to the city. The creation of a national park or lower level park designation will be significant to the city and its people.
