Child support regulations vary from state to state. However, without federal regulation, child support amounts can run wild. State amounts are calculated to the "best interests for the child", and yet there are individuals receiving much more support than what the children actually need. Every person has a basic amount of needs to be fulfilled, and there is a number somewhere which would provide for the needs without being excessive. Children should get what they need and deserve, not what a custodial parent wants to improve their own social status. The child support system needs retooled. The archaic practices of stripping someone of more than they can handle should be changed to be fair for everyone involved.
