The Medal of Honor is the United States of America's highest military honor, awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. On Dec 14, 2012, in Newtown, CT, a gunman slaughtered 27 innocent people, 20 of whom were children. Teacher Victoria Soto went above and beyond the call of duty by hiding her students and lying to the gunman about their whereabouts. She was killed but her students live on. She gave the ultimate sacrifice, more than any of us would have asked or expected of her. With this in mind, I respectfully ask that a Civilian Medal of Honor be created and the first award be given posthumously to Victoria Soto.
