Gun control is a complicated issue in the United States - possibly more than any other country. We like our guns. There is clearly a division between between gun owners and proponents of gun control.
Technology may help bridge the gap through smart application of both hardware and software solutions. GPS tracking could be used to disable guns when they enter safe zones - except ones used by law enforcement. Cameras and AI software could be used to prevent a weapon from firing at a child.
The President can take a leadership role by calling on the CEOs of companies like Google, Microsoft, and the gun manufacturers to create partnerships for researching new safety measures enabled by advanced technology. The President should host the first meeting and follow the progress closely.
