The English language has more than a few outdated spelling rules that prevent students from learning it easily.
This is not an innocuous problem, nor is it something that affects all students equally. English language learners must generalize a lot of rules that are inconsistent and confusing.
I propose group of linguists, teachers in coordination with the business community review relevant research on how to incrementally change our spelling system.
Such simple changes as draught -> draft will make it easier for all language learners.
