We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Create a Congressional Sub-Committee to Address the Employment Status of Workers in the “Gig Economy”

Created by D.H. on July 26, 2016

Many companies that take advantage of the “gig” (or “sharing”) economy (particularly TNCs) treat their workers in a manner consistent with The Department of Labor’s definition of true employees, while still designating them as independent contractors. WE THE PEOPLE feel that these citizens deserve protections such as health care, worker’s compensation, and proper insurance coverage. A company that provides a fully branded service end to end and stipulates every aspect of a worker’s behavior, should be fully committed to making sure that these EMPLOYEES receive the benefits that they are due. Mr. President, we ask that you create a Congressional Sub-committee to investigate the practices of major players in the sharing economy, and ensure that the American worker remains protected.
