The American government needs to align its laws when addressing drugs.
Alcohol and tobacco use have a significant impact on the economic, social, and physical health of Americans. Direct effects of these substances, including toxicity, is far greater than other drugs which are mandated illegal, for instance, Cannabis.
A consistent drug policy should address all non-medical drug use, and regulate them based on the dangers they pose as determined by scientific evidence and not prejudice.
If the American government is averse to legalizing and regulating Cannabis in a manner similar to other drugs like alcohol and tobacco- despite the negative economic, legal, and social impact of current drug laws- then the administration should be consistent.
