The internet is the most powerful and open entity available to the American people. As an open resource it has for generations; provided knowledge, resources, ideas, companionship, creativity, business opportunities, comfort, validation, and insight into ourselves and our peers. It is at all times - simultaneously - the largest collection of human knowledge, the greatest gathering of the people of the earth, an amazing source of entertainment, and opportunity.
Time and time again lobbyists have attempted to gain the legal oversight to control the internet, but the internet cannot and should not be censored, controlled, or otherwise limited to the American people.
I propose that a free and open internet be declared as a right, and be given protection via amendment in the US Constitution.
