I hereby petition that the Obama Administration should set up a live-streamed continuous name reading of victims of gun violence, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year until January 20, 2017. In the spirit of the AIDS Quilt, this project would help citizens and policy-makers reexamine just how many people die from guns each year.
The set up is simple: a camera, a podium, and a list of names of victims lost to gun violence, including their name, age, location. Volunteers take shifts reading the names, including friends and family of victims. When a citizen participates, offices of their congressman and senators are notified. From 2001-2013, 406,496 people died in the US by guns (CDC.) There are millions of potential volunteers.
Let us never forget the names of lives cut short by gun violence.
