About 24,000 children born in the USA yearly have permanent hearing loss before age five. Recent statistics and research reveals language delays are beyond common in the majority of these children. Regardless of laws such as IDEA, education for deaf and hard of hearing children has been improving meagerly.
The cause of language delay is due to obscure agendas by professionals who refuse to provide proper remedies to language deprived children. This occurs because of the belief, without research support, that American Sign Language interferes with auditory and speech skills.
This petition seeks to prevent language delays by requesting the creation of a Deaf Education Reform Act to ensure proper remedies, including American Sign Language, are mandated to deaf and hard of hearing children.
