This Department of Firearms Registration will conduct or coordinate background checks for purchasers of firearms; as with a driver's license, ensure the applicant is a citizen of U.S., has good vision, and has no record of mental health issues. Oversee database maintenance for these records. Oversee gun safety and skill testing (administer tests every three to five years). Gun owners must report SALE or THEFT of guns within 20 days to the DFR. Assault weapons will be illegal.
Drivers of 3000 pound killing machines must keep their cars registered, keep their driving skills up to date, prove vision is good.
We should apply the same type of regulation to guns and their owners. We would CREATE thousands and thousands of JOBS with this new department as well.
