U.S. Postal Department has rightly honored all major religions and cultures by issuing stamps for occasions like Christmas, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, Kwanzaa and Eid. Indian-Americans request the President to help us get a stamp for Diwali. This is the festival of lights with origin in Hindu faith, and celebrated by Hindus, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and Muslims as well. This marks the New Year and victory of truth and righteousness over evil and leads us from darkness (ignorance) to light (knowledge). This effort has gone on for 13 years and the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee has it under consideration for the last five years. This request has met and exceeded all requirements. We request the President to help us get a stamp for Diwali.
