Create Dollar coins the same size as Half-dollar coins and end the minting of the 50-cent piece at the same time.

Created by E.C. on November 09, 2011

A Dollar Coin is sorely needed. Recent attempts at introducing it have been misguided and bound to fail, because they have been the same size as the Quarter. It will be accepted only if the coin is made larger, and the size of a ½ Dollar coin is perfect. A simple three step process will assure its usage:
1. Announce introduction of the new sized Dollar-coin;
2. the end of minting 50-cent pieces; all other coinage will remain;
3. declare all existing Half-dollar coins are valued at One Dollar.
The reasons this will work are:

People can tell the D-coin from other denominations by feel, rather than by sight; people with 50-ct.'s will have good-will towards the economy; many machines already have slots, new ones will be needed; Half-d's become collectables.
