The time has come for courageous leadership to restore rationality in the application of the Second Amendment's guarantee of the "right to bear arms." It was intended to be in the context of a "well-regulated militia," not anyone who thought they ought to be able to build their own arsenal.
It is time to end the handwringing over the power of the NRA. "It'll never happen" is not an acceptable answer. The administration needs to figure out a way to make it happen. We did it with civil rights and smoking.
We need a serious educational campaign, starting with a comparison of how many lives have been saved because some private citizen happened to have a gun versus how many lives have been lost because some private citizen happened to have a gun. Take back the dialog from the NRA.
