The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and other legislation aimed towards eliminating the wage gap has proven ineffective in the work place. Women and minorities continue to suffer when their superiors take advantage of this social norm by saving their companies money and paying their workers less than their white male counterparts. In order to effectively end the wage gap, those in the legislative and executive branches should propose new legislation to prevent it and then enforce the new law(s).
