It is necessary for the rights and freedoms of the citizenry to have equal justice and protection under the law. Therefore, we the people ask that the federal laws requiring minimum sentencing as part of the War on Drugs be amended to no longer incarcerate minorities at a higher rate than Caucasians through the use of race based terminology. Crack cocaine, a drug in which African-Americans account for 82% of the arrests, requires a 5-year mandatory prison term for possessing only 5 grams of the substance. In comparison, powder cocaine, a drug in which whites and Hispanics account for 72% of the arrests, requires ten fold as much, or a minimum possession of 500 grams in order to reach comparable sentencing levels. Please rectify this overt government sanctioned racism.
