Create an Executive Order banning landlords from charging application fees, running credit and background checks.

Created by S.J. on December 11, 2012

Prospective tenants seeking property to rent or lease have to pay ridiculous fees to apply for a place to live with no guarantee that their money will secure a home for themselves and their families.

The prospective tenants are not applying for a loan and should not be subject to a credit check. Many landlords have started requiring background checks and are refusing homes to people that have served sentences for past crimes. If tenants have paid their debt to society they should have a right to lease a home for themselves and their families. I think it is asking very little for these tenant rights considering that the tenants ultimately pay the mortgages on the homeowners property.

The only requirement for leasing a home should be a source of income enough to cover the monthly rental.
