The Copenhagan Zoo's shotgun execution of a giraffe considered to be surplus inventory demonstrates a management philosophy that is completely inconsistent with the concept of educating the public and protecting wild animal populations.
Their claim that the giraffe might have reproduced in the future and thus compromised the genetic line of European giraffe zoological specimens is a reason to look to other relocation sites or even medical alternatives, but is not justification to kill.
The inability to recognize the enormity of their error shows a far lower standard of care than in appropriate. Zoological specimens from the US should never be sent to a county where they, or their offspring, might be killed for the convenience of the zoo. The ban reflects the killed giraffe's lifespan.
