A database to track police-involved shootings and fatalities is more than needed. It is ridiculous that there are no systems in place to track the number of citizens who are killed by the police, yet there are numerous measures taken to track the number of incidents that end up with police being injured or killed.
If the federal government can track the citizen crime rate, the same can be done to track the police.
Body cameras are not going to be enough to create real change in the way policing is done in this country. External measures are needed, and this is a huge overdue step.
