Every school should provide a safe and secure environment for our children to learn. By improving security at our public schools by installing equipment and having a security staff on duty during school hours can help significantly reduce the risk of violence erupting.
To help fund such an effort this petition asks the President and Congress to create a federal fund that helps public schools improve their security procedures. By accepting these funds the school should be required to meet federal guidelines on what level of security is minimally required.
For example the school might be required to lock all doors except ones with security staff and equipement (metal detection).
