Create a federal law to mandate a PAID parental leave for working parents with a newborn.

Created by I.P. on December 21, 2012

A federal law for a PAID parental leave would ensure that all working parents have the opportunity to take care of their new baby regardless of their financial situation. There are only 2 countries in the world that do not have a PAID parental leave, and US is one of them. Even countries with much worse economy have PAID parental leave. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_leave This would ensure that a working parent would not have to go back to work after only couple of weeks after having a baby just because of financial demands or because they do not have enough vacation or sick time accrued to have a paid leave. Short disability typically does not cover first 30 days of being disabled, so in the current economy, most families with newborns definitely experience financial hardship.
