Scalping (the act of buying event tickets and reselling them above face value for profit) is a major problem. It has always existed, but as technology and the power of the internet develop, so does scalping. Bots buy an average of 60% of event tickets and try to sell them for often over double the ticket's face value on sites like StubHub. As a result, many consumers are unable to attend the event that they want to and artists, performers, athletes, and sports teams are scammed out of their true audience. Some states have weak regulations on ticket resales, some have none, and some have strong but weakly enforced regulations. The goal of this petition is to federally ban bots and create strict regulations for ticket resellers, with a focus on online ticket resales.
