The illegality of prostitution is based on faulty myths that have been proven false long ago; the purported exploitation and abuse of prostitutes have been found to be vastly overstated. In instances where a sex worker truly is being abused or exploited, legalizing prostitution would allow them to contact law enforcement without fear of being reprimanded. In addition, benefits such as a reduction in sexual violence have been reported in areas where prostitution is legal. For these reasons, it is on the U.S. Congress to establish legality of prostitution.
