Create Federal legislation that prohibits States from ignoring the needs of the mentally ill, set mandatory requirements

Created by D.M. on December 17, 2012

So many strong and powerful groups have tried to get meaningful "Gun control" and have failed, or have just given up. Maybe we should look at a compromise, maybe Federal legislation that prohibits States from ignoring the needs of the mentally ill, set mandatory requirements for the treating of those with mental illness. Provide more Federal funds to States to address the issues of the mentally ill people in our society. Each of the most recent evil killers that have made the news all have had serious mental illness that was known. President Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, a known mentally ill person. In Florida, our State ignores the needs of the mentally ill, and if their was some Federal legislation to prohibit the act of ignoring the mentally ill, we may just live in a safer society.
