We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Create a federal program that covers the medical expenses of innocent shooting victims.

Created by T.L. on August 26, 2016

As many are aware, the United States faces abnormally high levels of gun violence. For those lucky enough to survive incidents of gun violence, medical bills can be crippling.

This petition calls upon Congress to establish either a federal program that will cover medical expenses of innocent shooting victims, or a mandate requiring that all insurers cover the medical costs of innocent shooting victims.

One needs to look no further than the stories of Monroe Bird III, Caleb Medley, or the 100,000+ Americans who were or will be injured in 2016 to know this is a problem.

If Congress will not address the root causes of gun violence or healthcare inequality, may they at least help some of the victims in this system that allows for such tragedies to happen again and again.
