As with many single parents, paying child support is a necessary expense. However, paychecks are taxed, then child support is taken out. The money that can be taken out in my state (oregon) could be as much as 50% for someone with another family and up to 60% of their check for a single person. That is substantial. The person will never see that money but is taxed on that money. Furthermore, generally the person paying child support has fewer rights to claim the child on tax returns or claim child credits. Let's create a way to give a credit or tax break to those who are actually taking care of their children and paying towards them.
