America currently falls below every other industrialized nation with its lack of paid maternity leave. In fact, we are the only industrialized nation to not offer any paid leave for parents of newborns. It is truly a disgrace to our country. FMLA only gives parents 12 weeks of unpaid leave with the guarantee of coming back to your job, but that is not enough. Women need more time with their babies in order to create a healthy bond, and to successfully breastfeed. The U.S. is losing many outstanding women in the workforce due to lack of maternity benefits in this great nation of ours. It is time to create a federal law for companies to offer paid maternity leave benefits. This will reduce turnover and create a more diverse workplace. Women are giving birth to future leaders, pay them back!
