Create a forensic rapid-response “SWAT” agency dedicated to the detection, analysis, and source tracking of faked video and sound recordings used to discredit or defame private or public individuals.
What if Putin were to plant faked cell phone video of a presidential candidate days before the election inflammatory enough to change the outcome? As recent events in India and elsewhere prove, this is not mere conjecture. In fact, as technology becomes better and cheaper, eventually teenagers will be able to fake the image and voice of anybody with a significant archive of real image and voice data. Only the most sophisticated forensic analysis and response will ultimately be able to counter this looming threat to both national security and individual rights.
