The current Student Loan Interest Tax Credit is capped at $2500 per year, or about 7% of a $35,000 student loan. Since many students have more debt and a higher interest rate and since it seems everyone seems on the student loan crisis bandwagon, let's give our nation's youth the same deal we give the last generation. A homeowner can write off their entire mortgage interest payments for a year. This does not put the lender at additional risk nor does it let students shirk the obligations they knowingly undertook. It simply gives students the same deal homeowners get on their taxes.
