Current school safety measures are, on the whole, inadequate for protecting our children from violent acts. While some schools have security personnel, metal detectors, and crisis response plans, few have the ability to isolate a visitor, ascertain their identity, and assess risks to student population. Many places of business have secure ID card systems that are used to open doors, yet locally, none of our schools or classrooms have such a security system. Installing card access ID systems for schools and classrooms, with an implementation that requires each classroom be locked to the outside without badge access is a minimum security measure that could save lives.
