Create Georgia's Only Interpretive Revolutionary War Battlefield Park at Battle of Brier Creek site in Screven County GA

As The War for Independence was fought to an almost stalemate in the northern half of America, the British shifted tactics and invaded the state of Georgia in a well coordinated invasion in 1778. In a string of military successes against the Georgians, it came down to one critical battle at a remote site near the Savannah River. Lieut. Col. Archibald Campbell boosted, "I want to be the first British Officer to tear a star from the new United States Flag of Congress." The Battle of Brier Creek was the ripping of that star. After the battle, Georgia became the only of the original states to be officially declared returned under British governmental control. One hundred fifty U.S. soldiers and militia lay buried in unmarked graves at this site, waiting for the recognition of their country.
