When we measure national progress purely in economic terms (GDP), we don't know whether our quality of life as citizens is increasing or decreasing.
This petition calls for the United States to create its own version of a Gross National Happiness index (GNH), which in addition to economic wellness, measures progress in society based on additional factors such as environmental wellness, physical wellness, mental wellness, workplace wellness, social wellness, and political wellness. The index would be inspired by the country of Bhutan, who has had a GNH index for over 40 years, but it would be improved and expanded to fit our needs.
A GNH index could help us ensure that all our innovation and economic progress always serves to support the greater good of society.
