Children from a majority of European countries become accurate and fluent in foundation level reading before the end of the first school year. The rate of development in English is more than twice as slow. This creates barriers for all English learners.
We need to research and propose simplifying English language spelling. Our spelling system has not been updated for hundreds of years. Simple changes like "draught" to "draft" are good examples that reflect current pronunciation. Thanks.
