Americans on both sides of the gun control debate can agree that what happened at Sandy Hook was atrocious. However, political platform agendas have taken away from the true debate. How do we keep firearms away from criminals and the mentally ill while not impeding on American's right to bear arms?
There are millions of law abiding gun owners who've never committed a single gun related crime. Nearly any firearm on the market could've been used to some degree, if not more so, to cause the same tragedy. The individual defines the crime, not the weapon. What we need in this nation are background checks for every firearm sold, mandatory training required per firearm owner, and emphasis on Constitutional carry. History has taught us better than to leave ourselves defenseless.
