An Apple executive said: “We’re trying really hard to make things better. But most people would still be really disturbed if they saw where their iPhone comes from.” (NYTimes, 1/28/12)
80 hour weeks, child labor, unventilated factory explosions, poisonous fumes, worker suicides. They're happening overseas, but they're hurting America:
* We can't compete fairly with factories like this.
* Our greatest companies are losing face around the world.
* We don't want to buy products that leave blood on our hands.
In the State of the Union you proposed a Trade Enforcement Unit to investigate foreign subsidies and counterfeits. If we can do that, we can do better. Create a Level Playing Field Unit to certify fair foreign factories so we can know which companies live up to our standards.
