FIFA has proven to be a corrupt institution that generates money for themselves and not the countries that hold their tournament. In addition, the reports of the terrible migrant worker situation in Qatar suggest FIFA conducts their business ignoring basic human rights.
Using existing football stadiums, the United States could hold a similar tournament without needing to add infrastructure. A invitational-type tournament could be held with the world's best teams, creating a TV event that soccer fans around the world would want to see while reducing the audience the FIFA World Cup would generate.
The teams entering would be protesting FIFA by doing so. If successful, the tournament would take away FIFA's greatest asset: their revenue-generating audience.
