The oceans are the main carbon sequestration means on this planet. Large scale fish/algae farms can draw down significant amounts of CO2 while supplying large amounts of food, biofuel, organic fertilizer and other important material.
The room needed for mariculture to offset global anthropogenic CO2 emissions is roughly 1% of the surface of the planet. The nutrients below the thermocline can support such a large operation while also helping to cool the surface waters.
If this type of large scale operation were to be stationed in the path of the El Nino warm water transpacific surface flow, the mariculture installations would help reduce the severity of the El Nino.
It is requested that a one time $5B be budgeted to initiate this project and the profits go to further enviro research.
