Convicted felons immediately lose the right to firearms ownership, and are so informed. This new law and your support would have snared the 1.3 million aforementioned offenders nationwide--that's 87,400 per year over the 15 year study. Felons are instructed by courts of law and probation officers that they can't own, possess or have access to weapons, yet even after having been released they still boldly (or insanely) make this attempt. Right now, felons are simply turned away locally since it's a federal issue. How does this existing practice reduce violence and deaths or gun thefts or straw buyers? I'd say every gun sales counter have a deputized Marshall for an immediate arrest.
