Create laws that require political candidates to share the campaign money they raise evenly with their opponent.

Created by D.O. on November 17, 2012

Create laws nationwide to require politicians running for office to give half the money they raise to their major opponent. If I raise $1, I give my opponent 50 cents. This would instantly change the nature of obscenely expensive campaigns because donors would be required to contribute money to a particular race for office, but not just to a particular person. It's a perfectly fair approach and cannot be criticized as unconstitutional because this rule does not impinge on free speech - it just ensures that free expression is evenly shared. If we're honest and not selfish, isn't this what we all want in our political campaigns?

Can we find two politicians anywhere brave enough to pledge to do it? Or, are we going to continue to play by the rule of whoever raises the most money wins?
