My wife functioned as an unpaid chauffeur for her daughter from the ages of 9 months to 15 years. My daughter was a child actress who usually made $15,000 a year from commercial residuals. However, my wife did no other work and was not paid for her many years of hard work. Now she is very ill with an assortment of maladies (congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, legally blind) and, because all her work was off the proverbial books, will probably not be eligible for Social Security because she is too sick and legally blind to work, but not considered legally disabled.
