Create Legislation Mandating Gun Ownership Be Licensed As Motor Vehicle Drivers Are

We, the undersigned, petition the Government to enact legislation to license gun owners in a similar manner and level to that of car owners. Driving a car is a major financial and legal responsibility. Gun ownership should be equally as such. We petition the Government to make gun owners: register their guns as car owners do; get liability insurance; be subject to health, written, and performance tests for licensure; have regular fitness & safety inspections; pay yearly ownership taxes; and allow doctors to ask for license revocation if they judge the owner to be unfit, just as they can and do for drivers. Such legislation would increase owner responsibility and safety, as well as raise consumption-based revenue for States.
