Create legislation or national policy keeping news outlets from naming active shooters/shooting suspects

Created by G.W. on December 15, 2012

There should be a policy or legislation, which would prevent news outlets from publicly releasing the names and images of those who commit such atrocities as the shooting in Newton, CT.

1. Protect the families of the victims from having to see the perpetrator's name and face plastered all over the news.

2. Preventing false identification of the perpetrator until such time that positive ID is made.

3. Respect and acknowledgement of the victims should be given precedence over the person who felt that their lives were not important.

This about protecting the innocent victims. It would be a simple and respectful way to show support for the victims of such events, and to hopefully prevent at least one person from feeling their only way to be heard is to commit a horrific act.
