The purpose of this petition is to begin the process to introduce new Federal laws to protect the privacy and preserve the safety of law-abiding citizens who have legally obtained a Concealed Handgun License (and by extension, any other firearm related license).
The petition sites the recent publication by Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) owned The Journal News of White Plains who published the list of names and addresses of pistol/handgun holders in Westchester, Rockland and is attempting to publish those of Putnam Counties in New York, linking them to Google Maps as an interactive online database on their website lohud.com. The map has purportedly revealed the info of some abuse victims and LEO's.
Putting lives at risk like this is one example of why gun registration is a bad idea.
