Today, those suffering from kidney failure can obtain a kidney from a living donor whom they are related to or know or from a cadaver.Except for an exchange system in many hospitals, the patient still needs to have a living donor step forth and agree to give their kidney in exchange. What if you have no one who can agree to give their kidney in the exchange? I propose creating a living kidney donor database in conjunction with the Gift of Life that will screen potential altruistic donors who are willing to help and who will receive no payment for their generosity. I propose that prisoners be given the option of giving back, or making amends for what they have done if they wish to be part of this Gift of Life for no reduction in prison terms, etc. Thousands die each year waiting.
